i have an 83 z-28 with a 700r4.

when the car is cold it will ocassionally slip out of gear, the transmission revs freely. if i get off of the gas, it will take gear again. i am not sure how many miles the transmission has on it but it is a later model 700r4 than would have been in my car. i have experienced the problem in gears 1, 2, and 3.

Any Ideas?

 

A simply thing to check would be the amount of fluid in the tranny. If your on the low side, you maybe not retuning the fluid as fast as the pump needs it (cold fluid). Another thing might be to replace the filter in the pan. Good luck

 

You may need a rebuild, your clutches and band may be burned out. If you need a rebuild the best place i've found for price is www.netgearhead.com

 

the level of the transmission fluid is good. i sure hope its not a rebuild, but thanks for the advice.
