700r4 issues

I have searched the forums and can't find a problem similar to mine. Car is an 86 with a sbc and 700r4. Took it for a spin around the block, backed it into its parking space and left it for a couple of days. Went out today to start it, revved it up and I'm going backwards. I cycled it through gears and no change, also checked linkage on trans. It seems to be moving through gears. Any ideas? TIA.

Re: 700r4 issues

Does it have enough fluid? Does the fluid smell burned?

Re: 700r4 issues

I am sorry, what is the issue...

The Transmission is operating as if it is in Reverse, regardless of what position the Gear-Selector is in?
...or are you saying that it behaves as if it is in Neutral, and it is rolling backwards?

Re: 700r4 issues

There are ONLY 3 possible issues:
-The Gear selector is the issue, and is not moving the Gear Selector cable and the Manual Valve in the Valve-Body.
-The Gear Selector Cable is the issue, and is not moving the Manual Valve in the Valve-Body.
-The Valve-Body is the issue, and is not allowing the Manual Valve to move.
