1986 700r4 checkballs delete ?
I am in the project of replacing the stuck TV valve of my 1986 700r4 automatic transmission and I want to ask you if I it's the opportunity for delete one or more checkballs in order to improve performance of this tranny.
It seems that some people do.
If so, which ***** do you recommend me to delete/eliminate?
According my Tech Manual, there are 10 check ***** in this 86' 700r4:
CASE:
#1: 4th accumulator
#3: part throttle/drive 3
#4: 3-4 clutch/3-2 ex.
#8: 2nd/1-2
#9: detent/lo
VALVE BODY:
#2: 3rd clutch accumulator
#5: lo/rev
#6: drive 3
#10: t.v. exhaust
#7: not mentioned. I suposse it is a "capturate" or "trapped internal" check ball
Anny advice will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Denis V

Omitting Check-***** does not equate to improved performance.
The Answer to your question depends on whether the Transmission is still stock or not.
Different "Shift-Kits" also dictate the use or omission of different Check-*****.
The Check-***** serve 4 main purposes:
-1st: They act as a 3-way switch or valve, to turn on one Circuit or the Other Circuit...
The following are this type of Check-Ball: #3 PT/ D3, #5 Low/ Rev, and #9 Det/ Low.
(These will be set in a "Bath Tub" looking pocket of the Valve-Body or Case).
Ignore the text in the Image... One of these Pockets that look like a "Bath Tub" is shown in image below:
These Types of Check-***** can NOT be Omitted unless the Separator Plate or corresponding Circuits have been Modified.
-2nd: They act as a restriction to feed fluid into a Circuit.
(These were Omitted decades ago, mostly by people who were not educated on how to make a Shift Firmer... most often causing damage).
(However, in some all out Race Applications... Omitting a this type of Check-Ball is appropriate).
(These are often Omitted as part of a Correction or Modification to a Circuit... and is appropriate).
-3rd: They act as a restriction to release fluid in a Circuit.
(These are often Omitted as part of a Correction or Modification to a Circuit... and is appropriate).
-4th: They act in some specialty purpose.
(The following are this type of Check-Ball: #1 4th Accumulator, and #10 TV Exhaust).
(#10 TV Exhaust should be removed on all Units as part of a GM Update for the THM700-R4 and THM200-4R Models).
In regard to "Shift-Kits", the #2 3rd Accumulator Exhaust Check-Ball is often omitted as part of a larger Modification involving the 3-2 Control Valve for 2-3 Up-Shift Timing (and 3-2 Down-Shift Timing).
