4" drivedhaft with 9" rear axle

Hello,

I have a 9" currie rear axle.

From some weeks i have vibrations under my seat starting at 50- 55mph and growing with speed

I tought it was pinion angle , but corrected alignement and rear axle centering.

I checked everything and think it is the driveshaft...

I planned installing a 4" diameter aluminium driveshaft.
do someone has one ?
any clearance issue ?

If you have any idea , advice, don t hesitate

Thanks for your help

Marc

Why not get yourself a PST 3" chromoly driveshaft?? They are super strong and will take anything you could throw at them. I got one in my 91 Z with a turbo 370 LS, 4l80e and Midwest Chassis fab 9. It's buttery smooth at all speeds.

I was looking at a Denny's DS but they stopped shipping up to Canada.

Re: 4" drivedhaft with 9" rear axle

Hello All,

Thanks for your suggestions, the idea was to put a 4" aluminium one for weight saving compared to steel.

Any body has a 4"one ?

Thanks

regards

Marc

What are you trying to do with the car that you figure you need that 4-5 lb savings?? Try calling a reputable company and ask them their thoughts as to which direction to go. If you're looking for those weight savings I'd scrap the idea of aluminum and go carbon fiber

Re: 4" drivedhaft with 9" rear axle

What torque arm are you using? I have the BMR Trak Pak. Between that and my 3” Magnaflow catback there’s not a lot of room left in the tunnel. I’m not sure a 4” driveshaft would fit with my setup.

If you are in Canada, get a Bears driveshaft.
They are from Ontario

I got one, and it's 3.5" moly.
It'll handle anything I'll throw at it..

Re: 4" drivedhaft with 9" rear axle

I got a 3.5” moly and its fairly close to the torque arm in some spots. I got the midwest rear and torque arm package which uses a separate crossmember, not off the trans crossmember to mount the trq arm so its a but shorter. 3.5 fit good but its abit tight in there.

i would think 4” will fit tho.

Re: 4" drivedhaft with 9" rear axle

I can't comment on the fitment of a 4" aluminum driveshaft although aluminum to me is not the way to go. But that's application specific.
Pat's Driveline is in BC (as well as the rest of Canada) and they've built several custom shafts for us (back in the day). Never a failure despite some beefy output (from customers not me specifically). There's a 3 1/2" steel shaft in the BBC TA with room to spare if that's of any relevance.

Guess i shoukd ask how much power do you need to hold? Have you considered carbon fiber?
