B&M shifter with 700r4 Transmission

Hell all. I'm looking for some help with a B&M shifter that is being used on a 700r4 tranny. Im not exactly sure which shifter this truly is? You can also see from the picture that the gear selector only shows 3 speed. The 700r4 is a four speed transmission. This was they way it came when i got the car!! my question is does anyone know what kind of B&M shifter this is and where i can buy the proper gear selector for this shifter? Thanks

How does it shift? Like a normal shifter or more like a ratchet ?

Get that shifter out of there and buy the correct one. Looks like someone installed some kind of universal shifter that doesn’t fit right at all. You need this B&M megashifter made specifically for thirdgens. It will come with two indicator windows - one for a 3 speed and one for a 4 speed:

That's what i was thinking was going to have to happen. Are these units hard to install?

I found the hardest part was getting under the car to route the cable and then adjust it to make sure it goes through all the gears properly. I think there’s instructions at the link I posted above so you can see what’s involved.

Are you sure you still have a 700R4? Maybe somebody installed a TH350 and needed a new shifter to match?

The carb still has the detent cable connected to it. So i gotta believe this is a 700r4.

Re: B&M shifter with 700r4 Transmission

THM350s have a Detent Cable.

THM700-R4s have a Throttle Valve Cable (improper use of this cable will burn up the Transmission).

Re: B&M shifter with 700r4 Transmission

That's a B&M Z-Gate shifter. I had on in my Camaro. They now sell a 4 speed version but when I bought mine, they only had a 3 speed version. The instructions said you could install it on a 4 speed but you wouldn't be able to manually shift it to 1st. I modified it by cutting another notch for first gear. I didn't use the chrome cover but you would have to extend the opening another inch rearward. If you want pictures I could dig the shifter out of my garage. I really liked the shifter. Way better than the stock shifter or a ratchet shifter.
