Speedo Cable Question
85’ Z28 with a mechanical cable. Speedo stopped working, I attached a drill to the cable down by the tranny and the cable works fine, what’s the part called the cable plugs into in the transmission? Sorry if it’s a stupid question, just having trouble finding out what the part is called.

Re: Speedo Cable Question
Depends on what part you're asking about.
If it's the chinesium piece that bolts into the transmission, people usually call it a "bullet" because that's what it looked like in lots of older transmissions. The other piece is the speedometer driven gear, so called because there's a gear inside the transmission that drives it.
There are 2 "bullets" for the 700-R4, that depend on what the car's rear gear is. Reason being, for different ranges of ratios, the driven gear is either a larger size or a smaller, and the "bullet" has the hole that holds the shaft part of the gear, either farther away from or closer to the drive gear. Plus, if what you need is the driven gear, you need to know what color it is AND how many teeth it has; the # of teeth thing should be obvious, butt the color is the code for which drive gear # of teeth it matches to. Like, a green 41 tooth might mate with a 17-tooth drive gear, butt a yellow 41 tooth might mate with a 19-tooth drive gear. That sort of thing.
