Is My 700r4 Unsavable?
On my way home from work a couple of days ago I drop it into drive and I go to make the turn out from where I work and once I get on the road it shifted really hard into 2nd gear, the whole car jittered for a second and all of my gears became neutral... It'll go into gear but you need to rev the engine out for it to even try and move at all in reverse and drive. I have no idea what the issue is, I already have a new transmission ready to go in (4l60 from a 91 camaro) but I would just like to just know what happened so that way I can prevent something like this from happening in the future. I was messing with the lockup converter wiring a couple of days ago trying to wire it to a toggle switch, maybe that did something bad to it? idk. I've been driving the car for about 5 or 6 months without lockup which I've heard is not good for it, it's an 87 700r4, either way I wanna try and rebuild it for my trans am project. Even when this transmission was working fine, it would never go into 3rd at WOT.

From my inspection it looks like the torque converter decided it wanted to become 9 million stall, rest of the tranny is fine but I'm gonna rebuild it anyways. I suspect using it without lockup for so long finally caught up with it.

When the Torque-Converter fails it usually sends Debris through the Transmission and the Cooler.
Everything needs to come apart to be cleaned.

Yep, I took the pan apart and found very disgusting fluid with metal in it. I gave it to someone else already.
