700r4 stuck in 2nd gear

Hello, I have a 91 firebird 350 with a 700r4. Having trouble with it shifting properly. I just put it in my car, bought it used with 80k miles on it. Worked fine for about 2 or 3 weeks, except for slipping into 3rd pretty bad. Recently it started to skip 2nd and go into 3rd perfectly and 4th. Now its stuck in 2nd all the time. It will go in first if i put it in 1. it'll take about 10-15 seconds to go in first and about 30-60 secs to go back in 2nd when i put it back in D or 2. Anyone have any ideas?? Could it be the ECM or PROM? Thanks in advance..

Your computer has nothing to do with it. Your trans is failing.

I figured, just thought i'd throw that out there. Any ideas on what is causing it to fail?

Re: 700r4 stuck in 2nd gear

While I have successfully rebuilt a couple of 700R-4s, and I have failed a half dozen more, and read all I could, I'm really not an expert. I have no clue as to what exactly is going on inside yours, but after having 6 of them die under me, and reading about others on several forums, I feel I have this pretty good sense of when it's too late. I could be mistaken, but I'd put money on it being on it's way out.

It's the clutch man. Did you adjust the t.v. cable propperly when you put the tranny in?
