Transmission pump seal

So got my transmission almost all the way back together, but the pump gasket is confusing me. Can't seem to find much info on it. It lines up with all the holes except one, but the one is a hole that I haven't seen on any of them. Attached picture, but seems like neither gasket have 4 holes there. Gasket covers about 1/3rd of the hole on the top of the picture. Anyone know what the hole is for? Why it's there? If it matters? Also on the bottom of the picture it's got the larger hole, I assume wrong gasket. But the other style only has 3 holes where my case has 4.

Re: Transmission pump seal

A question from someone whose NO expert by any means on automatic transmissions;

Does the pump have a corresponding hole to the ungasketed one, or are there only three holes in that position on the pump?

Hopefully someone who knows for certain will come along with the info you need, the number of holes in the pump thing was just the first thought that popped into my mind when I read your question.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tran...0r4-front.html this may or may not apply, but it sounds like it.

upon further inspection, the extra hole doesn't go anywhere, just like an inch 1/2 down to nothing. Will still put the older, correct style gasket on though.
