4L60e swap (new to 3rd gen Camaro)
4L60e swap (new to 3rd gen Camaro)
Hey I’m new to the third gen, my wife got me a gutted roller 84 Camaro sport coupe for Christmas and I’m working towards putting it together. So what I’ve got going is I’ve got a fresh L31-r 350 out of a 97 half ton, and the 4L60e with wiring harnesses and 0411 ecm. Now what I was wondering is if the truck 4l60 will bolt in the Camaro using the factory driveshaft and components or if I needed to source other parts for this install. Also getting umi crossmember & t/a

Your focus os interesting. First question, do you specifically want a 0411 drivetrain? I don't believe they were using that PCM in 5.0/5.7 trucks in 1997.
An early or late 4th gen F-body extension housing should bolt up. But, the torque arm attachment to the trans. was done to save cost. Think about welding a bracket to a crossmember to hold the torque arm bushing.
The 4L60E had a longer gear selector spindle to work a gear selection sensor. If you wanted to use the 84 cable pan bracket, the pan bolt pattern is the same. There are aftermarket shift cable solutions.
If the driveline you have is short, are you going to bail? Probably not. Too long? Shorten it. It's the last thing to consider.
The 97s are an improvement over the earlier TBI trucks. But, I know a kid who was given a 98 free, so if you're considering the changeover because it's a good price, I will just say I would readily spend a couple grand to get into a 5.3 / 6L80 over an L31/4L60.
You could do a fee things to keep third gen driveline etc. parts, but that's not a highlight of them. Make a nice long list of parts / costs you'd need to complete the changeover.

Thanks for getting back right away! The truck is swapped to use the 0411 pcm from an 02 savanna van that had the 350/4l60. It allows for better tuning on the l31.
the trans I have I am going to be building to 4l65 specs and converting to 2wd (currently 4wd), but I have the output shaft and extension housing from a 93 c2500. As far as the torque arm mount I was looking at the umi crossmember. Is this a good option?
the main reason I want to go with the L31 over the LS is I have a ton of performance parts I am trying to use that I have bought for the Sbc over the last 20 years. I know it won’t put down near the power per $ but I’m only looking to be around 350-400 at the crank. Trying to make it a good daily driver to replace my old mustang that rusted out.
