Stupid converter ????

Alright, this may sound silly, but aren't torque converters supposed to be sealed? I set the converter from my TH350 down on my garage floor and noticed what looks and stinks like ATF on the floor later. When I turn the converter over, I can see fluid inside the hole where the tranny input shaft fits. Is this just ATF that leaked in there when I yanked the tranny or what?

Sounds like you set in on the ground with the drive tube down, you could have leaked out about a quart and a half at least. Fluid runs through the converter, it makes it work actually, so yes it's normal. In fact if you install a new converter it should get filled with at least a quart before installation. I usually set converters on a bucket with the pump drive down, it'll drain most of the fluid out.

thanks much for the clarification, I know next to nothing about torque converters. So, I should just drain it and fill it w/ about a quart of ATF before installation?
