what gear for me?

Hey, my dad and I are going to start looking for a posi for me pretty soon. We can't really decide on gearing, he says 3.42 I say 3.73. Engine, by this summer, will be 9:1 350, XE262 cam, vortec heads, performer airgap vortec intake. Transmission will be a tremec 6 speed. What gears would work for me here? 3.42's? Thanks.

When you say Tremec six speed tranny, are you refering to the T-56? If you are, I'd go with a 4.11 at least. I'm not going to go into all the reason's why untill I make sure we are both talking about the same transmission.

With a 6-speed, I think 3.73s would be okay.

With that cam intake I would go with 3:73s. And with a 6spd you won't notice hardly any difference in mpg between 3:73s and :42s.

Hell with a t-56 I would put in a 4.10 or 3.73. You have a huge overdrive and won't notice really a major difference. The only difference is you will cruz at 40 in 5th and not 4th....its up to you. I would put in a 3.73 or4.10

If I had a T56 I'd use 4.56. Either that or a 4.11. With a .50 second overdrive you will still have really low cruise RPMs even with a really steep rear end gear. You'll get great out of the hole accelleration too.
