9 bolt posi question

I'm running a 9 bolt 2.77 rear with 55k miles on it.
If I buy a different used complete rear can I put my posi in it or does the posi basically = the carrier?

i believe "posi" and "carrier" are on and the same. In short i would just yank the carrier/posi out bolt on the ring gear and go. This is assuming you have problem with your 2.77, and have no intention of going to a bigger gear.

Carrier is what the ring gear bolts to. The posi is what's inside of the carrier. In general terms they are the same thing. All 9 bolt 2.77's are series 2 posi carriers. 3.27+ are series 3.

PS If you took out the posi/carrier, what would the ring gear bolt too unless you had a full spool.
