thank you
Yes you should drive it easy, making several 1-2-3-4 shift patterns until it is fully warmed up and you have rechecked the fluid level. then gradually start adding more throttle as you go through the same pattern at higher throttle positions.
When I had my 700r4 rebuilt in October, The shop owner (good friend of my dad) told me that there is no break in for trans and to push it a few times to see if anything breaks. Just don't go crazy with brake stands all the time. And remember 700r4's are not very dependable transmitions under constant stress. That is why after 3 mounths and 6000 miles mine is back at the trans shop. I blew out 3rd and 4th gear last week. Take it eazy on the old 700r4 until you get a better trans. I'm saving my money for a t56.
I would listen to transfixleo, some shops don't test drive cars and check over every thing... I forgot that I was with the shop owner when he checked out my car.

700's are a good tranny but it depends on who does it. There is indeed a break in for a tranny. Especially with Teflon rings and such. The frictions also need to 'work' together before they have optimum holding power.
