is this a good torque converter?
i had my 700r4 completely rebuilt by level 10 in new jersey, they do slp trannys...they say it will handle 800 hp.not sure about that but it rips for sure...they said they put in a 14 blade torque converter.didnt tell me the brand but they did tell me its 2400 at stall......2800 at flash..........can somone put this into laymans terms and give me their thoughts as to wether its a good converter or generic junk..........its attached to a 305 tbi in a 91 firebird with many many mods...to an auburn posi with 3.73 precision gears via an aluminum driveshaft from dennys
I have no way of judging the quality of the converter. The 2400 stall means that you can run the engine to that aproximate speed but no higher W/O the rear wheels moving. The flash stall is what it will jump to as soon as the wheels start to move. This all matters if your engine starts making power at 2400 or so RPM. If it starts at say, 1800, then you are wasting power. If it isn't until 3600 (just picking numbers here) then it isn't enough and you will not accelerate well until that point. I hope this helps.

what method would you use to figure out at what rpm your motor starts making power? a dyno i presume? or are there other ways?
Actually you can just use seat of the pants! It's best to coast down in a higher gear but not let it downshift, if possible. Then gradually accelerate slowly, paying attention when it starts to pull easier.
