posi

I was reading and found that there is a SLP posi unit that sells for 100 dollars is this true?? if so where could i find it??? it seems it would be prefect for my car not to high performance... I live in canada and all the posi i have looked at around here, are like at least $350 so even $100 converted to canadian is looking pretty good... anyway any info on if it would be good... and how much would shipping posi from the usa to canada cost??
Thanks Corey

PS-> sorry for all the questions just very interested

look for their web site, slp.com or something like that, it's for 28 spline so make sure what you have before you get it.

the web site is http://www.slponline.com. There is currently a sale on it for $84. Keep in mind, you will need 28 spline axels, which were available in some '89s, and came in every thing newer. You'll also need a 3 series carrier ring and pinion. If you have a 305 TBI, than the rear is most likely a 2.73 two series.
Prices for ring and pinion from Summit......$181(3.73 Richmonds)
Complete Instalation kit......$120

These are American prices, and as you can see, the parts alone are pretty expensive. Labor around here is going to set me back about $250....

Well, I obviously haven't used it yet, but I can tell you why I bought it. First things first.......I got tired of leaving one tire burn outs with the stock peg leg.....not only does it look lame, but leads me to my second reason......no traction=not going anywhere=losing races. Basically, the posi will get you much better traction, and if you still don't get ttraction, at least both tires are recieving the amount of power they should. Third, the 2.73 gears suck if you're looking for acceleration. Plus I have a six speed ready to go in......so I'm changing the gears as well. Labor will be less expensive to have both done at the same time(posi and gears). Also, gears are generally cheaper for three series carriers the higher numerically you go(i.e. 3.73) as opposed to two series. My only guess why is more production of three series carriers....
The last thing that even had me wondering a little is will the $84 SLP posi hold up? Well from my understanding, it is a "pull off" posi from fourth gen Z-28s. Most of those came stock 275-285hp and some where around that area in torque. The differential should be able to handle at least a little more than that. Our L03 are stock 170 hp w/ 255 ft/lbs torque. Open element, headers w/ exaust, TBI mods, underdrive pullies are only going to get us to around 220-230 hp. So basically, the posi should hold up just fine for us. Hope this helps
