Is installing a shift kit really that complicated? I plan on installing one myself in the future and I like to think I'm pretty good with my hands. Isn't it just a matter of installing diffrent springs and drilling some holes in the TB plate?

Dunno why some people find it hard. I've done B&M, TransGo, and TCI shift kits on TH700-R4 and 4L60E trannies and it's always been a simple matter of following the instructions. TransGo even came with a video tape.

There's a little more to it than springs and holes, you are swapping a few internal pieces also. If you can read, have an accurate torque wrench, and don't get into a rush it's not big work.
