Im going to get some precision 3.73 gears installed with the slp take-off posi. At the place i went to today they quoted me 275 for installation. Is that reasonable? How much did you pay for yours and where did you go?

btw. what do you think of precision gears, the lady says there a lot less whinier than richmonds?

I've never heard of precision gears, but I'm looking at something besides richmond myself. I had richmond 373s in my car and it wined alot. I haven't had a chance to realy check to see if they were installed right yet. They aren't too far off though. I just pulled they complete rearend sat. Worn out auburn posi. It was clanking so bad I thought I broke something. Changing to 28 spline moser axles, eaton posi this time. I hope somebody that know what kind of gears besides oem, runs quiet.

so you didnt have to pay for your intstall. for me though it'd be better to take it to a pro rather than tingle around with it. i just hope i can find a place that can do it for less than 275!!.

btw the lady showed me a sheet with the gear ratio, tire diameter, and rpm's at 60mph and the 3.73's were around 2650 on 26" tires!!!gas mileage down the drain!!

No pay on the install. I do my own. What trans are you running?
I have a 700r4 and turn 2200 2300 at 70 with 245/50/16 tires. That's not to bad. I don't do much state driving though.

26 inch tires with 3.73's will be 2900 without overdrive.

If you have a 700r4 tranny.

The 3.73 richmonds I have are quiet, but alot of people to complain about them. They are probably the strongest though.

$275 is way too much for install. I had a new posi unit, gears and all bearings and seals done for $100 labor. I know that is cheap, but it is a guy working privately. I did, however, have two other quotes of $120 and $150.

Mine are quiet too, I think it all depends on how they were installed, if done correctly they won't make noise. I got a good deal for $150 on the install. Came out perfect. Also I went from 2:73s to 3:73s and didn't lose any mpg, I turn 2500 rpm @70.

if you havent done it before, id get it done professionally. otherwise those gears you just bought will last about 10 minutes and be in a million pieces. around 225-250 would be normal rates for a posi-gear set up.
