does anyone make a 9 bolt cover gasket, like GM or after market. or do you have to use permatex?

RTV Red (orange) works better than a gasket on a diff cover.

I got the "last one" at my local NAPA store. At first, they didn't believe that the thing existed... On another recent thread, someone said they got one through their local Chevy dealer...

I agree with Stephen, use the "tubular" style gasket.

Don't use Permatex or any other "make a gasket" crap. Go to GM and buy the 9-bolt gasket. It's the 7.75 ring gear. If you tell them 9-bolt, they're lost.
