Need help!!!!!-1981 6 cylinder bellhousing???
I need to know If the bellhousing on a 1981 6 cylinder tranny (firebird) will fit a small block. I'm not sure what tranny is in there so if you could help me on this also, I would appreciate it.
Thanx

If it is an overdrive tranny it has a dual bolt pattern and will bolt
to a Buick, Pontiac, Olds or Chevy motor. If it is a Turbo 350 it
could have the dual bolt pattern or not.
Look to see if it has a bolt on tail shaft or if the case is all one
piece from the motor to the drive shaft. If it does not have a bolt
on tail shaft, it is an overdrive unit and will bolt to anything but is
a very weak tranny.
If it has a bolt on tail shaft, look to see if it has two sets of bolt
holes at the very top that bolt it to the block. If it does, and you
have a Buick V6 engine, you can bolt a Chevy motor to it. If you
have a V6 chevy motor, you are good to go.
This tranny can be built to handle a good 400hp or so.
