yes you should change the PROM

without changing it might cause your engine to act funny/ your engine light will be on

its mainly because of the way the PROM controls the RPM's between shifts with a manual transmission

with an automatic there is less (whats the word i am looking for???) "lag" between shifts

with a manual.......try driving and shift out of say 3rd gear and watch how long it will take for the RPM's to dwindle down to zero.......it takes a long time

as compared to an auto PROM where it should not "hold" as long

hope i gave you a valid enough reason

Hate to argue but that makes almost no since. The gas pedal controls the RPM's not the computer. And why would the light come on? The computer doesn't care what type of transmission is in the car. ALl it controls is the convert lockup.

switch to the manual bin. the bins are different between a auto and manual. Can't remeber all the differences but I recall that the IAC tables are different. Best to start with what your using than trying to "fix" a bin thats wrong to start with. cheers, Bob

You can still use your auto chip and you should have no problems with an engine light. The only small problem I have is when I first start the car I have to let it idle down before I move (5-10sec) or my idle speed will be very high (1500rpm) when I slow down or push the cluch in untell I let it idle down, but after that the car will drive like any other stick car with no problems what so ever. Now this is what I have experienced on my car so yours might be different. Also there is no off the shelf chip that you can just buy and plug in, you would have to have a custom chip made up.

i guess i meant to say that the IAC is held open to allow the RPMs to fall slowly between shifts

errrrrrr............i'm strating to confuse myself here

my professor told me that there is a difference in manual prom as compared to an auto prom

i think i'll shut up now

If you're running a 350 go with the vette 350 manual. ALthough from a 305 manual won't be much different just a bit lean is all. If you're really worried about it best thing to do would be to burn your own. I'm doing the swap in a few short weeks, but I'm not worried about it.
