From Auto to Manual

What would be a good guess on how much it would cost me to get a manual trannsmision swapped into my car? What transmision would I want to get? Used or new? Also what else is involved with this swapping? How much would it all around cost me? What problems might I expect to see after the swap is done?

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks
-Joe-

Oh yeah...I currently have the stock 700r4 Automatic Transmission in it

I just completed converting my 82 from a turbo350 to a t5. I bought an 84 firebird with a t5 in it for $200. There is an article in tech central on converting for auto to manual. The main issues I faced was cutting a hole in the firewall for the hydraulic clutch and making the wiring changes to get the starter and reverse lights working. My conversion required using the driveshaft and torque arm from the firebird (both were shorter than what was originally on my car. This may not be an issue for the 700R4 to T5 conversion. Also, locating and cutting a hole in the floorboard was needed. You'll also have to drill out some spot welds to remove some of the automatic shifter mounting provisions.
My total cost was around $400 (firebird, new clutch, and misc.). But, I did all of the work myself. If I were charging someone, I'd probably want around $500 labor plus parts.
Hope this helps.
