When is a new flexplate needed?
I have a newly built engine (in my sig), and a new Pro-Built Street/Strip tranny with a Vigilante going in soon. Is the stock flexplate going to be ok? When should it be replaced or does it need to be unless something catastrophic happens to it? If I need one, what brand and number of teeth, etc. should I get?

Is your old one showing cracks or have elongated bolt holes ? If not use it unless you need one with SFI certification. The # of teeth relates to how your starter mounts, if it's the original block, use the same amount of teeth as your original flex plate has & use the same style starter also.
Here is what happens if you dont inspect the flexplate
I let the noise go on for sometime before replacing,
it is fairly easy to inspect for cracks look from edge to
center of flexplate.
