Went to the track tonight and ran a best of 14.8 at 30.97 with a 60 ft time of 2.187. I had 2 problems: 1 totally no traction, my best run started out with smoke and going sideways, 2 the tranny didn't want to shift from 2nd to 3rd, my 1st and 3rd run I had to let off the gas because I was doin about 70 in 2nd at 5500rpm and it wouldn't shift, I let off the gas, dropped 3-4mph and then it shifted. I lost a lot of time doing that. What could be wrong???

Thanks

Dave

Check the fluid level. It must be "full when hot".
Then add and extra 1/2 to 3/4qt trans fluid.
This worked suprisingly well on my car. It was doing exactly the same thing.

More than likely your 3-4 clutch pack is gone, time for a rebuild.

Thanks guys, I'll try adding the fluid, and if that don't work i'm going to have to swap my old tranny back in.

I'v got the same problem.
Could it be something as simple as the govenor gear stripped or just sticking?

3-4 pack is a weak point so it could be sending you a message. Also, you could be pushing it past the proper WOT opint for your engine. Just because it can get to an RPM does not mean it wants to be there. Sometimes people go faster by lowering the WOT shift point.

How would i change the shift point???

1st gear shifts smoothly at 4900rpm, 2nd does that sometimes, and I havn't had a chance to push 3rd to that point yet.

Thanks
