Blew my tranny?
Okay. I think I screwed something up in my tranny on wednesday.
I was crusiing normally on the freeway, got off at my exit and pulled up to the light. Everything seemed fine until the light turned green and I pressed the go pedal and the car barely lurched forward while the revs skyroketed to 5k (automatic tranny). I thought maybe I was in nuetral so i popped it into N and then back to OD, nothing happened. I tried all the gears, OD, D, 2, 1--even reverse--And nothing worked. Pulled into Chevron and checked the tranny fluid, bright red with no shavings at all. What the hell could it be? I was told it might be the Torque Convertor, which pissed me off since there are only 67k on this car.
Anyways, instead of dealing with finding a TC somewhere with a higher stall I was just going to use the tranny from my 85 TA parts car. It's also an auto. Besides the mechanial speedo cable, is there anything different between these two trannies? Any reason why I shouldn't swap them? Can I swap them? I already pulled the tranny/engine out of the TA for my car. But I can't get the top two bolts in my tranny going into the engine, any tips?
oh yeah, I've got an 87 formula tpi 700r4.

Just installed a 700r4 last night.
For the two top tranny bolts; Support tranny, remove crossmember, allow tail of tranny to hang a little lower than normal. If you got a long extension (like 3 ft long), a 9/16 (14mm?) wobble socket, and a good light, your in business.
CAUTIONS:
Remove distributor cap to prevent it from hitting firewall.
If you have an engine driven fan, watch out for the top shroud and radiator.
Need to loosen the exhaust pipes on the manifolds. Could break an exhaust manifold, or at least put a permanant downward bow in the exhaust system (don't ask me how I know this).
Best to have another set of eyes watching the eng stuff as you SLOWLY lower the tail of the tranny.
No clue what's up with your tranny.

Thanks for the help guys.
The fluid isn't burnt at all, nothing seems to be wrong with it...oh well, least I've got a spare.
Man, getting those two top bolts out is a damn b*tch. I just put it off until tommorrow morning, I'm too lazy.
Does anyone know the differences between the two trannies?
