How much power can a 9 bolt handle?
Thats the question. What kind of power are you guys putting to your 9 bolt? What does it cost to uprade it?

9 bolts hold up pretty well. I dont have any numbers, but I can tell you that in 91k miles, 1 tranny, and 1 engine later, the origonal 9 bolt is still doin just fine!!!

The posi will wear out before the unit breaks. There are Turbo Trans Am owners in the 11's still using their original 3.27 9-bolt with no problems. Their only downside is the scarcity of them makes the pricer higher.

They can be shimmed to a point (GM procedure calls for a max shim of .010, anymore and the cones may be bottomed out.) I have new 9 bolt stuff available at www.9bolt.com
