Mustang 5.0L T-5

I would like to know if I can use a T-5 from a Mustang on My Z28. They are both borg-warner and the gears r the same. I was thinkin that all I need to change is the bell housing. Whats up?

I don't know if it would work i've been trying to figure that myself.
I do know that if it would work the only thing needed would be a different clutch disk. Our input (or at least mine) has 28 or 26 teeth on it and the ford has 10.

I think the pilot shaft is a different size too.

Other than the input shaft I think the inside is the same, flimsy one they used in the Mustangs.

The tail housing and output shafts are different. The mustang box has no provision for a tq arm.

My question is why stay with a trans the mustang guys hate just as much?

The reason behind the Mustang trans. is that you can get a new one for $1100 that is underrated for 330 lb feet of torque. Where as, GM's stock T5 for a Camaro is 230 lb feet of torque. For some one on a very strick budget $1100 looks a lot better than the $2000 you'd pay for a Tremec or T56 that you have to spend more money on modifing to fit.

it will be very nice to find out if someone did it and just how, 'cause i'm wondering that myself. if it works, will be a good and cheap approach to getting red of the crappy nwct5.
fernando.

It is possible to put a mustang gearbox in a thirdgen, you just have to put certain GM parts on/in the ford gearbox. Look at this website, it explains it in more detail. Note that this is not for a thirdgen, but from what I can tell the process would be exactly the same.

http://www.geocities.com/adria-amber/t5page.html

These are the years which i am almost positive are the same.
82-84 Mustang V8 has same T5 as 83-88 F-body V8 (non world class)
85-90 Mustang V8 has same T5 as 89-92 F-body (world class, little stronger.)

The 91-93 Mustang T5s are rated even stronger ( than our world class T5s so I am curious if its possible to use that in a thirdgen.

This chart might be helpful if someone knows any specs on factory F-Body T5s. If so then this chart should let you know what will swap.
