700R4 problem

If i am stopped on a hill, and mash the gas, the engine rpm's all to about 1000 and will not accelerate, and the car shakes violently. I think it has something to do with the trans. Can anyone help me figure out whats going on?

Please give as much detail as possible. Are you saying you only get to 1000 RPM?

Well yes, actually the tach was reading under 1000, I forget how fast we were got up to, but it was slow. The engine wouldnt pull and then everything started shakind to ****, to the point where i had trouble keeping the car straight, so I let off. In normal driving it shifts okay, although I've noticed the shifts are slow, and i have to be nearly stopped at a stopsign before it shifts into 1st (decelerating). Uphill however is a different story, and sometimes if i dont have eneough momentum going up i can feel it slow down and shake slightly, but the hill is usually over before it gets too bad.
Back to the original incident, it was as if the tranny just went into OD from a stop when i floored it, and then the shaking happened. My uncle was with me at the time, he guessed that a servo could be bad, but since i only know how auto trannys work in principle (thanks howstuffworks.com)and not in reality i really didnt know what he was talking about.
Thanks for the help, I'm really totally lost.
