thats a sight on TGPs. However, they were front wheel drive so the swap would be a ROYAL PITA.

yes it was produced.. FWD.. ok.. would the turbo setup from it swap to our engines?? thats the big question..
like ive said many times before.. i do not want a v8.. i dont care if i spend alot more money building, rebuilding, having custon parts made, then what it would cost for a v8 swap.. i want a 300rwhp thirdgen V6 camaro.. and i will eventually (probably when im 60 years old) have one.. SLEEPER BABY..
.o0 (hmmm.. i may change my name to SLEEPER on here.. hmm... well if/when i do have one)

You should probably drive one first... They're just a little bit slower than a stock 305 TPI... The turbo might bolt up but the ducting and intercooler are setup for the GP platform and would take some work to adapt.
Swapping the 3.1 turbo into a thirdgen would be a perfect example of a waste of time and money. The only way you'll pull 300hp at the rear wheels with a V6 is if you use a GN/TTA 3.8 or a syclone/typhoon 4.3... Either way you're looking at $$$ and traction problems. Something tells me that if you had the money or the know how to pull off a swap like you're talking about, you'd realize how much further you'd be ahead with a 350.

Hmmm
Drew...
There are thirdgens with 2.8 and 3.1 engine/transmissions out there. I know for my wife has an 89 with a dead 2.8. What would be nice is to put a new engine in her car without having to do any major modifications and be able to pass smog. With her car being an 89, I can't go carb on hers.
My choices:
MPFI to TBI: Possible, but a complete pain in the rump.
MPFI to TPI: Possible, but a complete pain in the rump.
MPFI to MPFI: Very possible and cost effective, and won't cost an arm and a leg to modify.
The facts of having a V8 put in are good and fine.
What I know is that there are ways to boost the power of the V6 without boosting the hole in your wallet.
The best thing I have found for a swap is the HT 3.4 12363230 engine by GM Performance Parts.
It's not bad for a V6 and will be a nice replacement for that car without having the pain and suffering of a V6-V8 swap.
It is definitely NOT a huge gain. 160 HP / 194 TQ. But it is better than the 2.8 stock motor. It has the 3 / 36,000 warranty too.
For a racer, NO. For a daily driver, YES.
It would be nice to have some good power, and some good gas mileage to boot.
Putting a turbo on the 3.4 to make it a racecar? Well... that's another story.
I think the route I am going with her car is a good one. For mainstream day to day driving, it will be more than enough.
I know how expensive it was to do my car. To do hers will still cost quite a penny, but at least I know her car will run.

i am goin to use a 3.4.. i never said i was goin/tring to make a racecar out of my v6.. it will be my daily driver..
drew, thanx for answering my question if the turbo would bolt up..
Snowdog 91 Formula, the ht 3.4 from gm performance parts is not smog legal in cali (49 state legal).. it would cost about $2k for the engine and shipping.. besides, i could take, and i will, a 2-3 hr drive to la and get a used f-body 3.4 engine for under a grand..

If you get a 3.4 for no less than $500 for a low milage one, I'll smack you
, Karl might beat me to it though.
Use your networking skills. A friend from another board found my engine for me. Yeah, I could've bought a motor for twice as much & not do a 12 hr road trip, but I have more time than money, & it's been 2 yrs since I went around the Chi-town area.

It's not smog legal in CA as GM didn't put out the funds for the engine testing.
WHY
Who in CA would do this?
What size market ($) for return on investment ($$$)
IT's "legal".
It'll pass the sniffer & visual test
And I passed with flying colors!!
I have a 1995 version in my 1985 Firebird (CA car).
In my Blazer, it's a 49 state in CA (Federal version), so I can "LEGALY" do the 3.4 swap, too.
BUT, to tell them that, I'd have to pay $300 for the pleasure of smogging in CA (Get a CA Smog Ref to say I did good swap job, Maynard).
I have better uses for my money.
Next time, in my Blazer I'll do a V-8 swap. I feel by them (maybe 11 more years of V-6 ownership) teh supply of cheap V-6 stuff will hav dried up. Plenty of V-8 stuff forever. I have all the little parts (dist & matching elec carb, exhaust manifolds from Camaro), for the future foundation. I have plans for the brackets/mounts, too (the JTR manual).
By the future, the V-8 swap will be smog easy legal.
My current 1985 S-10 Blazer V-6 swap uses left my over stuff for cheap. I can install the 1985 MPFI set up after I smog in Dec/Jan 2003 & then decide to pay the $300 for legal swap, then. I have directions from Turbo City in Anaheim, they did a swap of that (MPFI set up in a carb'd 80's 60* Blazer) back in 1990 magazine. Laid all out plans wiring! It's easy, plus 20 + HP & higher gas & more torque!
