Non third gen question
Non third gen question
Ok, My dad has a 1987 Ford Aerostar with a 3.0 V6, He could be sitting at a stoplight and the van will stall, But it starts right back up, What's wrong with this? He thinks fuel filter. This van is sweet but wouldn't give up my Camaro!!
Check the timing. Also the idle air control may need cleaning. After that if he is still having a problem test the EGR valve. Basicly start with the cheapest and then work your way up.
Incorrect timing can cause a car to stall while idling, and a dirty IAC can do the same. A sticking EGR will cause the same symptom. Is the SES light on?

Oh yeah! I forgot about that! When I worked on that '88 Mustang I-4, the Haynes book went into this long description on how to check for codes with a meter. That really makes me glad that GM was smarter than Ford, all we need is a little piece of wire. I keep that wire in my center console, just in case!
