Significant gains

I have a 1986 sports coupe V6 camaro. I just dropped in a brand new v6 engine straight from the factory, I only have 870 miles on the engine, i was wondering if anyone has any ideas that i can use to "increased performance", more hp . Any ideas for significant gains to my engine? Just tell me ur ideas and how much you think it will cost. I apreciate any help, thanks guys.

The biggest gains come from, but not in order:

1. The Crane 2030 Cam
2. Dynomax Cat back and high flow converter and headers
3. Ported and polished heads
4. Nitrous
5. Gears, why do I say gears, because with 4.10's you will feel real quick 0-100....

Welcome to the board! And, "boooo auto"? I've done the following to my 700r4 4-speed automatic trans... all done myself, on my garage floor:

B&M Console Megashifter
B&M Stage 2 Shift Kit (Don't use this! Get a TransGo! I will, soon)
B&M 4-3 Kickdown kit
B&M Trans Cooler
Summit Remote Trans Filter
Energy Suspension trans mount
Energy Suspension torque arm mount

Search the V6 area for "Major Tuneup" by "TomP"; start there. Use it as a checklist to see what you have done, and what you haven't done, when you swapped the new V6 in.

Then follow Brian's list; if I had to go in a "logical" order, I'd say:

1. #17493 Dynomax Super Turbo Catback ( http://www.summitracing.com, WLK-17493)
2. Put K&N filters in your airbox, then, do the homemade ram air mod. See https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/ramair.shtml
3. Trans mods
4. Suspension mods (faster in turns = faster car) like polyurethane anti-sway-bar bushings & endlinks, p-s-t.com rebuild kit, new shocks/struts (especially if you're on your '86 originals!)
5. Gear install ($200 gears, $200 professional install- do it wrong, and you destroy your gears immediately), or do what I did, and find an '84 T/a with the 3.73/posi/disc rear (around $900 for me to rebuild it all, mostly spent on brakes)
6. Rebuild distributor & new aftermarket spark coil (won't see much performance with an MSD 6-series box)

Do you have a warranty on that motor? If you do, are you concerned about it, or would you dive in to do a cam, rockers, etc?

I find ram air to be quiet useful

Once you get moving you can feel the car pull.
Cold fresh air is great for any engine, and even better when you ram it down its throat.

course I dont know what they do at the factory but a proper break in time would be good. New motorcycles come with directions on speeds, miles and a few early oil changes for a proper break in time. *** knows why cars dont.

yeh, welcome to the board bud...and you can always search away to find info on modifications, another good idea is to look at peoples signatures for what they've done to their cars already. I also have a new motor in my car, jasper engine with a .040 over bore and some mild (really mild) head work. Nothing to special, the tranny setup helps alot....exaust system is finished, etc. Big horsepower comes from within, although when used in conjunction all of the above listed things will create a very useful ammount of power, and if anything makes the power feel even better it'd be those 4.10's or 3.73's, should get a stock car moving much quicker, and a modified one even more so. But, for your sake with the motor, i'd highly recommend breaking the engine in a tad more. I think with my motor they recommended me to do a oil change at 500 miles, and like 1500 miles, can't really remember anymore now, and i'm not sure what the breakin milage was, hmmmmm, gotta find that now...neway welcome to the board, and good look. remember, if you can get a car to breathe better, it will perform better, intake is good (such as cold air, or ram air, with K&N filters, conical perferably) and then exuast side (custom job on 3.4L headers, or one of the members on the board's custom headers.), highflow catalytic converter, larger I-pipe, dynomax/flowmaster (i like the latter for it's loudness ) mufflers, then to help the breathing a cam would be very very nice, give a little more lope (intimidation factor...combined with exaust note would scare ricers away), then work the heads, 3 angle valve job, roller rockers, etc. then you've got a well breathing engine that'll work nicely, and you'll run decently quick times. gears are gonna finish the job off, and say some tranny work too, big money for this complete setup but might be worth it for ya in the end, you'd have a nice and quick car that's eh...fuel effecient.
