Removing O2 sensor

i am having a hell of a time trying to remove the o2 sensor.

i ended up removing the wire from my old o2 sensor to get a socket to fit on it, still no luck...

i was wondering if i could drive it 25 miles to my uncles shop. they have a lift, a torch, and an impact wrench that should make easy work of it... will it be ok to drive it with no o2 sensor hooked up?

Well the car will run okay after you start it up, and then for a little while when you're driving till the computer goes into open loop mode and begins to read that sesor, then it will bog the car down with gas most likely. My car did this for a while when I replaced my O2 sensor and didn't reset the computer. But once the computer was reset it runs fine. So you might be able to make it there, it just might really run like crap and bog down.

ever heard of PB Blaster? get it. will loosen the thing right up.

I agree PB Blaster is the best .

But I am having the same problem getting my o2 sensor out, and I have soaked the hell out of it with the stuff.

PB Blaster is great but Heat works better

well I quess I was lucky cause all Ihad to do was knock it good with a wrench and it loosened right up. It was nice and cold too. Though it did have a factory installed crush gasket too...

i wa able to drive mine to a auto craft place here on post to use the lift. They wouldn't let me use the torch, but they used it and took it off for a buck but ti drove fine, but not perfect. If you are kind you should be fine.

Did you see my last message about the oxy sensor? Use as short a socket as possible, and use quick/hard "hits" on a breaker bar. If you're pulllllling on the breaker bar, it won't be as effective compared to if you "PULL! (quick pause) PULL! (quick pause) PULL!" You could even use a hammer on the breaker bar- but be CAREFUL. Breaker bars & ratchets and sockets and etc aren't meant to be hit with hammers- they can chip, and a chip can fly into your eye.

By using quick/hard yanks (or pushes) on the breaker bar, you simulate an impact wrench. Make sure you add extra anti-sieze compound to the stuff that's already on the new sensor.

Tom...good call on the safety issue of not hitting the ratchets or breaker bars with a hammer...I've experienced those problems before...however...to avoid that problem I now use a rubber mallot...if anything is gonna chip...the mallot will first...but yea...that PB blaster stuff is great...I've been soaking my exhaust manifold bolts for about a week now so I can then heat them...remove them and replace them...the donut is loose enough that I can spin it around with my fingers...but the best bet is too heat up the O2 sensor and do exactly what Tom said...just be careful not to strip the head of it cause if you do...there's a world of problems to be entering into...

Hehe, Joe, I don't know if it's because I'm older, or if I'm turning into a puss, but I'm always grabbing the safety goggles and gloves lately. My buddy's doing the same thing... we were talking about that. He says when he works on his truck, he makes absolutely sure it won't fall off the jack, and how he would never check that before- he'd just dive underneath.

i can understand the safty googles, i have had stuff fall in my eye twice, it is hard as hell to get that stuff out when you can't see and are home alone!!!!!!

ohh for the record that same day i was going todrive her to the shop i had a final try, and voila it came off... i wouldnt have got it off if it werent for my new trusty deepsocket + tube to extent the breaker bar... threads were intact new o2 resolved cold start issues and rich running...
