1988 Firebird - Needs Power!

I have a 1988 Firebird with a 2.8 V6..

I'm so sick and tired of hearing this crap about
"that's not even a real firebird, it's just a poser with a v6"
I don't care what anybody says, that car is fast as is. I can't really
say I'm too impressed with it's gas mileage - I "did the math" the
other day and figured out that I'm getting 12mpg with regular
day-to-day street driving. It has a whole lot of "Get Up 'N Go"
right now as is, completely stock, but I would like to give it
something more. Something to push it over the
"well it's fast, but it's not like I can beat a v8 or anything"
line. Maybe a turbo? Ram-Air? What can I do to a V6 safely?

I was thinking about buying the 3rd gen hood with the 4th gen
Ram Air style scoops at the following links:

I thought I could get this hood here, and install a RamAir system-
but can I do this without hurting the engine somehow? Any
suggestions would be appreciated

So many things to say.
What's your budget
What's your skill level
Whose tools
Who elses car will you be driving while your car is in repair?
Ever done this before?
Ever done an engine swap?

1. Drive the car as is
2. Save your money
3. Buy a TPI car

Is the body in good shape? If it is I'll give you $100 for it, I need a parts car for my '87 Formula 350...

(I'd be serious if I though that you would take it...)

I think you need to give your car a complete tune up! When I first got my car I was getting about 12 to 13 mpg in the city as well! After changing spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, air filter (k and n), ignition module, getting a new belt tensioner (old one was low on tension!) , new belt, flushing radiator, put 50 50 mixture of water and antifreeze back in ,fuel filter, changing oil and some greasing here and there. I'm up to 17 to 20 around town! There's also a thread on here called TomP's complete tune up that you should read. Consider it your tune up bible! You can find it if you use the search button at the top of the screen. Ah hell, here it is https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=62882

You think your car has pep now, wait till everything is running right! You'll love your car soooo much more!

"TomP's Major Tune Up" does wonders man!!!!

I get 22 mpg after doing that!!! well thats not all i have done though.

A tune up can really get your car running fast. This ain't nothing a shop would do. They don't do half that. Get a REAL tune up done and you'll be surprised.

Finish it off with:

rebuilt distribitor,
6AL Ignition Box,
Lower Temp thermostat,
Lower Temp Fan Switch,
Underdrive Pullies,
Dynomax Cat Back
Catco Catalytic Converter
Gut the Air Box
Throttle Body Bypass

And you'll be flyin' the the eights
