3.4 dohc v6? i don't think so
i had a party this weekend and this kid came over that i had never met. he saw all the car pictures on my walls and we started talking cars. he first starts telling me about a civic he has that will have 450 hp . after this, he starts telling me about his 4th gen camaro that he just sold( i can't remember the year but i know it was a 4th gen). He was claiming that it is one of 8 callaway C8s and has a 3.4 Dual overhead cam V6.
i know the C8 exists but i am damn sure it was a V8, i also know that the dohc 3.4 was never in a camaro. the ohv 3.4 was from 93-95 but not the dohc. am i right here or is this guy full of ?

Well, the 450 HP civic should have told you that he was full of ****, but here goes
93-95 F-bodies came with 3.4 L SFI engines, no overhead Cam
95 (some)-02 came with 3.8L engine, not DOHC either.
And no, the C8 didnt' come with a v6

well i guess it isn't impossibe to run an import that fast. Just go to thinking, you've got a car with say 180hp (the integra motor approximate) and then you add a supercharger that'll increase the power by say 30% which would put the car at 234 hp, add a 100hp shot of NOS and you're talking a 334 hp car, (not 450) but still a lot of power. Then you combine that in a car that weighs roughly 2500 lbs (give or take a few) and you've got a vehicle that'll most likely turn a very low 13 in the 1/4. That's just my take though, so, it's possible, just takes money, and in his case, traction. hehe. but more likely than not, it's bs, as if you don't do other aftermarket work to that moter (i.e. send it to a race shop) the boost alone might kill the engine, not to mention bottle feeding it for more than three trips up the strip.

they do make one, but it's for front wheel drive applications, not rear drive versions such as the camaro.

also in old grand prix GTPs and some cutlass supremes. it's actually based on the 2.8/3.1/3.4 design but with obviously, different heads etc.
first american car with a dohc would be the cosworth vega back in the 70s.

the Z34.. the first american made car to have a DOHC engine
Wooooo.
1968
Mustang 427 Cammer engine.
NHRA Supernationals
NOW stating that the 3.4 DOHC program GM had these cars in is
The first American production line car, in a long time...
I seem to recall possibly another example of a DOHC set up, probably in the 1930's or 1940-50's car line. Just not totally sure.
The Ford 427 Cammer engined cars were not production line "cars".
BUT it is one of the FEW Ford engines I'd love to start up every day...... and drive to work.
A street spec'd LeMans Ford GT40 would be the main ride!
They were installed in Mustangs for the Drag races and publicity.
Ford was on a big power plant roll back in the mid/late 60's. So was Chrysler (Hemi & the 383-440 B Block powerplants)
GM gave up (ruled not allowed to play by management) on NASCAR, took their powerplants to the drags & the showroom
I had an option to buy a 3.4 DOHC engine to slip in the Firebird.
I saw the pic of it.
Passed.
IT WON'T FIT!
I'd rather install a Turbo Buick swap than that 3.4 DOHC.
Be easier!
NOT!

One cam per cyliner head.
I agree!
BUT....
From Sept. 1990 Hot Rod pg 12
"GM's New 24 Valve 3.4L V-6"
GM's new 24 valve 60* V-6 will have a 1991 intro date in the Pontiac GP, Chevy Lumina, Olds Cutlass Supreme.
The new 4 valve per cylinder 3.4 L V6 is based upon an EARLIER 3.1 short-block, with vairious revisions for the 4 valve application.
While it's not an entirely new powerplant the 9.25 compression V6 is quite diffferent from earlier versions.
Delivers 215 HP/5400RPM w/manual tranny & 210 HP/5000RPM w/4-speed auto.
Both versions yield 215 foot pounds of TORQUE @4400RPM.
Watch for it in 1991.
NOW....
I was rereading my Jan. 1987 Road & Track magazine (one with Monte Carlo Stock Car & Porsche Prototype on cover. Monte beat it at top speed 240MPH!!! with a CARB!!!!!!)
Page 50
AJ Foyt races the OLDSMOBILE QUAD FOUR engine (GM production requested tooling in 1984) for production release in 1988 vehicles.
AND
Page 14 of the previously quoted Hot Rod
*NEXT GENERATION (maybe 1993!) Camaros & Firebirds COULD BE POWERED BY AT LEAST THREE DIFFERENT ENGINES, INCLUDING THE GEN 2 small block (surprise!-right?) AND THE
SERIES 3400 DOHCV6.
GM was thinking as I was, when offered a DOHC for my engine bay.
It's too wide
sits to high
GM was still stinging-bite by the bean counters when they installed the Buick Turbos (1989-TTA's) & had to tool up for new heads.
So what was offered, instead?
The 3.4's I suggest you install.
Torque is 200 at 2800RPM & is linear up to almost 4500+RPMS
A low tech answer, new tooling for the better block & slight revision of the old designed heads,
won out over the high tech too much trouble engine swap.
Don't forget to add
The hoodlines of the fourth gens is WAY LOWER than our 3rd stuff.
There were other domestic earlier DOHC's, tho.
Ever hear of a Rickenbacker?
AS in Eddie?
As in Once owner of the Indianapolis 500 Motor Raceway?
I forgot about that car line.
Pretty car.
Eddie insisted his cars have the first four wheel braking system in America.
His cars did.
