2.8 mods?? lil hlp please..

Hey. I get paid on friday and i will have roughly $250 Canadian.

I could get Dynomax Cat-Back System, ($209)

Or

I can make a CAI system, and buy a K&N ($?)

My Question is what one should I do first? If I buy the Dynomax on Friday, I can do the CAI next Friday cause i get paid EVERY friday

Oh and, How much HP should I get from doing both of these mods? For my exhaust note I am looking for a deep sound, It doesnt have to be loud, just deep. Bassy type of thing.. Dynomax kinda like this?

Thanks.

I have the same exhaust on my car; and it definately sounds deep; I'm happy with it. I'd vote for doing a catback exhaust (any brand) before a homemade intake. Of course, we need to make sure the engine can breathe in easier AND breathe out easier. But, what if you put an intake on? The car can breathe in much easier, but has trouble breathing out! If you put an exhaust on first, the car still "breathes in" normally, and breathes out "too easily".

Then again, an engine's mechanical, and since it's naturally aspirated, it won't suck in a huge amount of air if it can't use it. I hope I explained it clearly; but seems like the engine would benefit more from an exhaust first. Plus, a homemade intake is less than an exhaust system- what if it takes you a long time to get the cash up for the exhaust? At least, now, you have enough $$ for the exhaust.

IF I was you....
Really mean this..
SPEND THE TIME TO FIND A 4th GEN V-6 engine to cat convertor "Y" Pipe assembly.
It's 2 1/2" all the way.
BUT you have a problem.
WITH A PIPE THAT LARGE AND YOUR SMALL ENGINE, you'll loose so much torque, you'll never move from a standing start.
What ya do?
I strongly suggest you study a few pics of V-8 header "Y" pipes. Like Edelbrock or any brand for 3rd gen cars.
These cars of ours are STRANGLED from the exhaust manifolds.
Want proof?
Open hood, look straight down on passenger side exhaust.
See that "T"
MINUS like 10+ FREE-REVING HP the entire RPM range of the engine and more torque off the standing start.
You get a "Y" recreated, well done & you ADD a new CC, you gain that 10+ PLUS the entire engine RPM range.
You will spend less than your budget.
NOW want better?
SEEK OUT A V-6 4th GEN I-PIPE
NOW THAT PIPE at 2 1/2" is a great PLUS for your current set up.
THEN add any muffler you brand.
When you get this exhaust system done, you will be so please.
Cost should be about your budget range +$.
PS I have to do this too.
I have the 3.4 1995 "Y" pipe. That goes on my 3.4 powered 85 Firebird. You need way more power to take advantage of the largest pipes from the engine manifolds.
Your 2.8 won't make it.
BUT
I have the best set up on my 2.8 powered Blazer. Had it on the car since 1992.
Factory decent flow "Y" pipe. Still like 2" outside diameter, but smooth "Y" junction to CC
NEW 2 1/2" in and out, to 2 1/2" I-pipe to 2 1/2" in, to two 2" out muffler, split exhaust.
Looks like a V-8 style out the back, one tip per side.
YEAH REALLY PICKED UP OFF LINE SCOOT, HP, TORQUE AND UPPER RPM POWER RANGE. For all 175,000 miles I put on those pipes. Still gonna use current set up for my 3.4 swap, too.
Fresh air set up is next to nothing in cost.
Concentrate on exhaust.
ASK around for the best muffler guy you can.
