Knocking sound out of 3.1 ??

Knocking sound out of 3.1 ??
Yes of course I did a search before anyone says it but seem to just find info on exhaust leaks and injectors that are supposed to click......
A friends 3.1 rs seems to be making a very noticeable knock at idle and gets a little louder if im up under the car and have it reved a little but will get drowned out by the motor if its more than a little, the car runs just fine, but its worrying her, it doesnt seem to be coming from the rockers but more of right around the crank, yet doesnt seem to be a bearing type of loud knock, is it likely to be the timing chain or should i go after valve lash first ??
