The problem is, you asked at Autozone. I wouldn't trust their knowledge as far as I could throw the store.

For a 4th gen forum, check out http://www.camaroz28.com in their V6 area. A bunch of guys from my old club (with 4th gens) hang out in there. I think the 160 for a 2.8 manifold would fit; but to be sure, either call summit racing 800-230-3030 for a part # and price, or, go to http://www.hypertech-inc.com and look it up on their online catalog.

the 160* t-stat will work on your car. but if you're in a state with harsh winter, you won't have a lot of heat during the cold season. Hypertech makes one. Stant makes a 180* and a 195* and are available in most local auto parts store.

check www.firebirdv6.com or www.camarov6.com for more info on your ride.

Having done 3.4 swaps, I recall your subject thermo being "different".
Me?
If I was in Jersey? (Used to be, tho)
Put in a 180* & be happy.
Make your current system work right.
It does.
It can handle it.
The 3.4 can handle 220* heat.
And higher, too.
Normal is 195*-220*, correct?

stick with a 180*, good all year round.
Just remember, a car running too cold can be just as bad running too hot.

What your gauge should also show is it reading from 180-ish-220, back to the 200 range.
Then your system is operating normal.
The 3.4 Thermo is larger and requires a reusable rubber seal.
I recalled what was the difference was between the 2.8/3.1 7 3.4 type.
I use 2.8 spec stuff with my 3.4's.

the more expensive($7) Stant Superstat 180* is 59848. i think the cheaper ($5) one is 29848 or 39848. not sure about the first number but it's one of the 2. Fel-Pro gasket ($1.50) is 35402.

Karl, I run the 160 in summer, and put a 195 back for the winter. Yeah, I'm a sick bastard.

Tom
are your twenty minute thermo stat changes in the Summer or Winter!
LOL!!

I JUST MISSED GETTING A SPEEDING TICKET BY A RADAR GUN

WHY?
I was literally blocked by a Chevy Dually and I couldn't see him (cop) nor him me.
I was boxed in...
Protected..
the car right behind us, not so lucky...
And the CA Motorcycle Cop was in full bullet proof dark blue uniform in 100* shade!!
Think he was happy to be given that "detail" today!??!?!?!?!
I saw driver on the way back (stopped vehicle window up & AC on for driver!) and that cop was writing the ticket in the full on sun....

I pity that fool driver!
