well depends on how messed up...messed up is. What youv'e got is a firebird S/E...but remember they're tagged as being TransAm Special Editions, or T/A SE's. the only official trans am minus the turbo T/A to come with a six cylinder. The engine in it shouldn't be fuel injected, instead it should be carberated, and i believe that the engine should have been the H/O version of the v6, which recieved better heads and a better cam i believe. This smae engine was used in 85 and later FI birds, and the low end v6 was dropped. If you want it the nget it, if you don't let it pass, doesntreally matter, just how much work it'll be and how much work you'll be willing to put into it. You're officially buying the "luxury" version of a thirdgen. extra padding, quieter exaust, and a hopped up v6 which was the standard engine, instead of the 4 banger.

i'm pretty sure that from 1982 to 1985 the firebird S/E had the word firebird written on the fender like always, and S/E badges were placed on the sail panel. During the 1986 model year they moved the words to the lower door, and theybecame a decal that read firebird s/e. The cars also had some other unusual options like locking gas cap door, and rear hatch wipers, etc. Also the overhead console was standard equipment, along with a 2.8L v6. if it's an FI motor then it's obviously been replaced, or possibly the car is a 1985 model, in which case it would be the first year for fuelinjecdtion. But this would discredit the VIN all together, and make the possibility for the entire thing to be "false".

If there wasn't a 2.8 badge on the motor, it might be a 3.1 V6. The "mix" of serpentine/v-belt is the 85-86 V6 belt design- a ribbed belt for the crank/water pump/alternator. A normal v-belt for the crank/water pump/air conditioning/powersteering, and a normal v-belt for crank/water pump/powersteering. (Nice system, ensures that you always have a belt on the water pump and power steering... BUT, you can't buy overdrive pullies for this system.)

Only problem I see is a wiring nightmare due to the conversion... was there an RPO option sheet in the center console, or was it missing?

I confuse on the belt set up becase, On my 86 there is three belts. But on this there was two. It had a serptine set up that ran every thing but the ac. The a/c compresser was on the passenger side of the car but there was only the compressor for the system. I tought on all 82-84 f-bodys the rpos where in the small door in the back of the hacth. I mean this thing was hidious some one painted the top of the plastic back panels with black spraypant so it would match the dash. But I quess it not bad becuase it would be free mabee I take some pics of this odd ball
and by the way I looking at selling my 2.8 camaro for a firebird it has a 305 it a 84 there is no rot visible on the body but there is a huge dent in the passenger side fendere behind the wheel and the hood is looks like it dont close right. but the interiror looks like it has new carpet and seats. The paint is faded. The place selling it is a junkyard and the price is not nogatible 500$. I'll see if I can take it for a test drive and put it on there lift to inspect the under carrage.

Woah, weird. Unless, it was like the car I just found in a junkyard, that had an air conditioner added to it. 85-86 without air had a single groove pulley for the power steering pump, 85-86 with air has a dual groove pulley. Do you remember what kind of pulley the p/s pump had?
