Air box

Can I just scrap the air box in my V6 '88 and slap on a k&n filter right on the end of the maf? I noticed a plug in the side of the air box what is that for? I tried taking it off once and the car stalled, I don't know if it was the culprit but I wasn't taking any chances and put it right back on.

that would be the MAF, or mass airflow sensor

Your better off hacking off the bottem of your airboxes and throwing K&Ns in there . b/c you just put on a filter on the end you will be picking up mostly hot air from the motor , with the boxes slashed you will be picking up cooler air from under the car .
