Pretty cool. I was drooling with a stiffie the whole time I was reading the article...hee hee. Although I am a V-8 guy, I really like the 4.3 and would like to swap one in a thirdgen with a 305 someday. I know someone on here was trying to do that, but was having trouble with the exhaust (?). Just thought I'd point out the article, because I know that there is some interest in the 4.3 on this site. By the way, for good 4.3 info, try
www.s-series.org. I stumbled across it when I was looking for info for my wife's 92 blazer with the Vortec 4.3.

I would scan it in, but I'm embarrassed to say I don't have a scanner. I'm not sure if the issue is still on the shelf, but if you want some more specifics on the buildup (part numbers, etc.) I can give them to you.

Man, that's awesome!!!!! Can you post a build sheet? What kind of induction are you using? I am really going to build up a 4.3 someday.

Woah, too much information. I've gotta find that magazine. I remember taking it out of the mailbox and throwing it into my room. It might be gone forever

Hee hee. I can't help it if I get excited . That Hot Rod was one of the best issues I've seen in a while. I was wondering what people are using as far as heads go for 4.3 buildups. Hot Rod used the crappy stock TBI heads. I know that the Vortec 4.3's are better, but I don't think anyone makes an intake for them (for a carbed application.) Jimmbo, how did you do it? I know the TBI heads are really holding that engine back. I know there are some aluminum circle track heads out there that GM made back in the late 80's early 90's, but good luck finding them, and when you do-- $$cha-ching$$$!!

hey fellas
its all stock heads and intake anyway
minor port work etc

the major thing was the camshaft and compression
raised compression a bit
and had a cam ground
i think its about the biggest camshaft that will work with the stock computer
other than that its just solid internals eagle rods with je pistons
only problem is
i didn't opt for the billet crank
so i guess i can be the dummy to find out much horsepower a stocker will take

everything else is just bolt on stuff

then just spray the **** out of it!!

That's pretty cool. What are your cam specs? Are you running TBI or CPI? I think that Edelbrock and Weiand make carb intakes...so does Brodix.

Oh yeah, I guess I should ask what year your S-10 is... that would clear up my head/intake questions.

Is the one you're referring to the 4.3L buildup using Vortech's new centrifugal setup for carbs? Got 575 hp out of it before it blew up. Even so, they figured you could get 500 reliable horsepower out of it. Any of you guys out there getting ideas?
