TomP just want to check one more time!
Ok I'm going to go ahead and order the MSD blaster 3 coil with the tower on it. I have a white and big pink on the gray connector and a small pink and a white on the the black connector. If I connect the pink ones to the positive terminal and the white ones to the negative terminal it should work RIGHT??
Have you ever checked to make sure your computer was still advancing the timing when you open the butterfly after you wired up your SS MSD coil??
I'm going with the Blaster 3 becuase it produces 45,000 volts on a 12volt supply (summit website). The SS coil and the GM blaster you have to use a MSD box to get the higher voltage due to the lower turn ratio. The SS and GM only have 70 to 1 and the Basters 2 and 3 have 100 to 1. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong??
My AC Delco and GM blaster coils just keep leaking around the square and i'm losing getty up.

Sorry, didn't see your message this morning. The full scoop on all the coils is at msd's website, here's a link to just the coil page: http://www.msdignition.com/1msdcoil.htm I never even considered how the 6AL box would affect a Blaster 3 vs Blaster SS or Blaster GM coils; good catch. I just asked MSD what would be the absolute best coil for my application out of all their coils, including the Blaster HVC ($110 at Summit)!! I was surprised they told me that the Blaster SS would be better than the HVC.. usually a company tries to sell you the most expensive.
And I know the computer would play with the timing when I had an Accel remote coil, never bothered to check it with the MSD 6AL/Blaster SS combination, but it shouldn't matter for the coil. The computer decides when to advance timing via the pick-up coil inside the distributor, which is translated by the ignition module.
Do you have a broken motor mount or -something- that's causing all your coils to break? Maybe an exhaust leak that's aimed at the coil, and melting it? Actually, if you have a GM Blaster, you could call MSD on it; see how much they want to repair it. They're known for repairing things for free...

So is my white white wire your black one? I'm still confused from your last post on the colors. Well I thought like you did, think it was heat that was breaking them down so I made a bracket and bolted it right on the fender by the shock tower and extended the wires over to it. Same thing using a brand new GM blaster. ACCEL and AC delco coils do it too that are the same style.
Yes I sent my GM blaster back and they sent me a new one, same thing. MSD won't answer my e-mails when i asked them, they will answer my other e-mails about when it involves buying more of their products but not why that coil glows.
I've look around on the web and the only thing that "might" explain the glowing is the "crona effect". But I don't belive that it would be that slective and just be around the square on the sides only not the bottom. I believe it's the primary leaking off to ground instead of going into the secondary windings. I'm going to try holding the coil up in mid air, not toching the car and see if it glows then. I won't give a flip if I didn't have this annoying hesitation up till 2500.
The Blaster 3 is only 31.95 at summmit. It's $8 dollars cheaper then the lower performing GM blaster and SS $3 less and both those coils have LESS windings thus producing only stock voltages.

Like I said before, pin "A" of black connector goes to pin "A" of gray connector. Same for pins "B". So if your pink wires are on the same side, but on different connectors, across from each other, then yes, connect them.
The wiring is the same from 82-92, but the colors changed... whatever I postd in that last post about the negative side would still be the same.
here, using MSD's picture of their coil: The two "outermost" pins, one from each connector, near the "rounded" side of each connector, are wired together inside the coil.
The other two, on the squared off ends of the connectors, are connected together. Hope that helps. Look closely at your gray and black connectors, they might be like mine as far as mine have a small "A" and small "B" stamped on them. A to A, B to B.
It could be just the shape of the windings that cause the glow to be around the sides and not the bottom...?

Your the man TomP. How come they don't make you one of those board watcher dudes with 7000+ posts like that??
I'll check it out this all out and wire that puppy right up!
