I would think that you could install a solenoid or actuator that would pull the cable for the trunk release. You may have to install a door popper, which is basically just a spring and a plunger. That way when it unlatched it'd pop it up an inch or two, just enough so that the gas shocks would take over and raise it the rest of the way. If you're just wanting something that you could hit a button on a remote and have it unlock, then you could go without the door popper. Try www.autoloc.com

Hey 92 Red Firebird having a firebird has nothing to do with it.
OK jmb_o0o since you have a 1992 you are in the same boat that I was in.
The only way you get to have a hatch realese is to find a 1992 f-body with the hatch release A90 option. GET the whole thing.
On the 1992 pop hatch option THEY DO NOT use a solnoid but rater just a plastic lever to pop the lock on the way up.
The 1992 pull downs are specifly for that year, it's the year they changed them. All other releases from other years can't be wired in or put in becuase everyting is different. Finding one is hard.
The other option you have is to go to the dealer and get the plastic level and plastic track thats on the push up part and add it to your current unit. It should show the plastic lever and track on the explosed parts drawing. A90 is the option so they may be able to figure it out by that too.
The console button is the same and the hatch relase relay that goes in the console is the same for all years of camaros and firebirds. The relay is also the same relay used for the horn so you can get everything at a junk yard or dealer.

You could get the whole hatch release set up from a Camaro in a junkyard like Ryan posted or you could order an aftermarket one from Summit. They call it a "Power Trunk Opener" It is part number VIA-80138 the cost is $21.95.

I don't think a 21.95 hatch deal is going to work. The one that's on the 1992s is really different from the older camaros.
Finding one that has the A90 option on it in a junk yard is like winning the lotto. I got mine off of a guy that was parting out a 92 Camaro in the classifieds. The motor wasn't the best so I used my motor. To get one NEW is $300 and some for the whole thing and I don't thing you want to do that. I had been looking all over even on www.car-part.com but they all said they didn't have it.

NO it is not, POP hatch swtich, was the A90 option for ALL F-bodies. If you ordered your car directly from the factory they give you a build sheet with option codes and what they are. Now if your just talking about the POWER hatch part, that is standard on all Camaros at least after '85 due to people shartering the glass from slaming it in colder states. It's just like any other option like power windows when you go to the dealer, some camaros/firebirds have them some don't, just depending on how LOADED the car is.

Er, 92Red, my Firebird doesn't have any automatic hatch pop. It was an option. And actually, I'm glad I don't have the option. Too easy for someone to poke something through the window and open the hatch.
And actually... in the console? The automatic hatch releases I've seen in Firebirds have their switch on the dashboard, below the center a/c vent, a little to the right of the defroster switch. Yours is in the console?

i'm sorry, by console i ment in the more of the upper console, above the radio and below the a/c vent. I has the bottom line firebird for the year 92, it comes with the hatch switch. i've yet to see a 92 firebird w/o the switch

Yep I hear you on that poor college kid man o man, when I brought the whole unit from the guy parting out the 1992 it cost me $70 bucks and his motor was noisy so I had to use mine. Now that it's in there it's so dam handy. I guess it's ok on the price becuase now I have a back up unit just in case and 1992 pull downs are hard to find and they cost $$ so it's all good.
TomP they could just do the same thing to a door pin by poking something in. I still have my stock ACdelco cassete AM/FM stero so nobody has any reason to break into my car.
92 Red Firebird just go to a junk yard and you will see the dirt cheap firebirds that are option free most of the time.

True, if someone wants in, they'll get in.. I just want to eliminate as many "easy" routes as I can. Although, haha, I do have an aftermarket radio... but in the condition the car is in, I don't think anyone looks at the car anymore.
It's why I haven't gotten XM yet. If I was a theif, and saw an XM antenna on someone's car, I'd think "Hey, that guy has XM. I wonder what else he's got!" A buddy of mine tried putting the XM antenna inside his back window, and he said it does work, but it cuts out in some places.

But anyways, with my car looking the way it does, the stereo, my tools, radar detector, jumper cables (Yeah there's something valuable), and my gas cap (WTF?) was taken. See I was scared about the gas cap because I thought they might have put sugar in the gas tank. So I licked my finger and stuck it as far down the filler neck as I could and then touched it back to my tongue. MMMMMMM Gas! (But no azucar (sugar for us white folks))
Now as it is, I used my best buy discount on a 350 dollar alarm fully loaded ( with all kinds of goodies!) and got all of it installed for 100 dollars (That's the 350 dollar alarm plus installation and all the alarm goodies) ! Isn't that great!? I get all of best buys stuff for how much they bought it for (cost) plus 5 percent. Now my car looks kind of bad and I know people think I'm a dumbass when I get out of my paint faded car and push the beep beep button to arm the alarm! You know, it's kind of like those POS's that have the 20 inch chrome rims on them. But not that bad!
