Who has a DynoMax Cat back system
This weekend I scored a 2 1/2 in to two 2 1/2" out (no name appears, only numbers) muffler from a Z-28 for $13. Including the tail pipes attached.
I see mentioned the Dynomax Cat back system.
I am in need of obtaining a new intermediate pipe.
New Dynomax pipe may be the easist way to score the intermediate pipe I need, instead of waiting for a used "new" 4th Gen V-6 I-Pipe to pop up.
Does the Dynomax I Pipe fit the back of the factory CC easy?
Or need I modify/enlarge that rear CC opening to match the larger size of the newer I Pipe from Dynomax?
In the end, I may just weld it onto the current pipe I now have.
Loose power, maybe.
But until I have $$ & all the right parts (piping desired), easiest may be just weld up the "extra space" of mismatched pipe.
My current muffler is rather old. And wobbles.

Mine has a dynomax on it. It WOULD have fit the cat fine if they would have put the "clamp" on it in the right direction. Other then that, I feel everything went as planned on the install.

The Dynomax cat-back that you speak of is the 17493 which uses intermidiate pipe 47638.
Summit sells this I-pipe, part number WLK-47638 for $74.69 plus an extra $10.00 for shipping (which is strange, because yesterday I ordered the full Dynomax Super Turbo 17493 cat-back kit which has this I-pipe, and was not charged additional shipping charges by Summit (just was charged their normal $7.95 handling fee)).

$75 for that pipe?
Think I'll weld this on the end of the original pipe.
Sure I'll loose some HP.
But $75 can go along way welding the pipes on my other rides.
Thanks!

The back of the cat has a "ball flange", and accepts any bolt-on intermediate pipe. That's how our cat is described, by the way... 2.5 inch inlet, 2.5" ball flange outlet. Karl, does that 4th gen pipe youre looking for bolt up exactly to a third gen? Or were you going to weld something up?

I beleive yo'll have to take it to a shop to put a 4th gen I-pipe on. the Y-pipe goes straight back, doesn't have theat neat little curve that the factory T-pipes have (unless they improved it after 85
)
edit: but then, I'm preaching to the quire
nice pics of the engine btw, to bad you went w/chevy orange :sillylol:

Had to.
It went in my Chevy Blazer!
I attached the original old "Y" pipe, smog pump (yep, CA legal!), Alternator, AC compressor for trial fitting/modifying if any.
Back to the Firebird...
I'm assuming a 4th gen V-6 pipe is gonna be a close fit & due for an alteration.
Which is exactly what I can accept to bring to a decent muffler shop.
I'm just looking for a willing subject/shop to work with me when I bring them decent pipes.
