I'm pretty sure it'd throw a code without it in there. I've got the 3.1 that luckily didn't get a MAF so I'm not positive though.

LEAVE it on . YOU need that . or you will run extremely rich causing the gas to wash the oil off of your cylinder walls , which is a very bad thing .

I did the same as Mike...doesn't cause any problems. Question though V6 : "thanks guys i left it on. i just put the open element air filter where the stock round air cleaner box was. one more ques. on the stock air box the was a small wire connection hooked to it. what does that do? i disconected it because i took off the air box. it ran ok."

Are you SURE you have an MAF? The setup you describe sounds like the 90's model setup, which is a cylindrical filter in a can, with the temp sensor screwed into the side, with the intake arm doing 2 90 degree bends into the throttle body. If this is your setup, you don't have an MAF sensor..this setup got rid of the MAF sensor in favor of an MAP, which measures airflow indirectly by using manifold pressure information (I think) and comparing it to a chart stored in comp memory... The can setup should only have 2 things in the way..the air temp sensor, which is not a problem, and the exhaust gas recirculation tube, which again is not a problem.

They used that MAT (manifold air temp) sensor on the MAF cars, too, same location, in the side of the air box, a two-wire connector.

no i have the regular maf sensor. i still have the stock air box down until where the cylender shaped air box used to be. i took that off and put the open element where that was. i took it out and test drove it and in mid rpm if i let off the gas and hit it again it would hesitate like hell. i brought it back and taped the air temprature sensor to the side of the open element. took it out again and had no probs. its working great now.

Tom, my comment wasn't whether he had the MAT or not..I know that...but I wasn't aware they used an MAF sensor for one of the years that they made the can and arm intake system. I thought the dual snorkel exclusively got the MAF, while the can exclusively got the MAP.
