Vin # for HO

What Vin# Sets apart an HO V6 from a non HO, and are the HO's 3.1 or 2.8? Thanks

I'm not sure on the vin# that distinguishes between a regular or HO v6, but both are 2.8's. The HO received larger valves in the heads which were identical to the fuel injected heads used in 85-89 F-bodies.

Yeah, after '85, the 2.8's "High Output" designation was dropped. Use the thirdgen.org vin calculator to run your vin and show what engine you have. MD, did the '84 HO also get the same cam as the '85-92 2.8/3.1 MPFI's? Or did it just get the better heads?

I'm not sure if the cam was different...

billsfirebird has a 2.8HO equipped Firebird S/E. Someone could shoot him a PM and I'm sure he could tell us.

I do know that the 2.8 HO was only available in Firebirds (and may be exclusive to the S/E).

the 8th digit of the VIN will be an "L" if you have the HO 2bbl V6. for the regular 2bbl V6 it should be "1". The HO 2bbl was rated at 125HP whereas the regular 2bbl was rated at 107HP. When MPFI came out in '85 it surpassed both of 'em, being rated at 135HP in its first iteration, and the 8th digit was now "S".

Beige car pictured below is an 84 HO V6: 1G2AX87L4EL223604

hope this helps
