My new V6....
My new V6....
Hey everybody, just finished talking to a few dealers this weekend and I am getting ready to sign the papers on Saturday (11/30).
It will be a 2003 Nissan 350z - 6 speed manual - 287hp - 274 ft/lb - the thing handles like dream and sticks like glue...and boy can she move. I have been saving for a while, and things look like they are working out. I am placing my order and it will be here in March. That of course unless my boss talkes me into a BMW, but I don't think so. The Z really is a great car.
BUT....I AM KEEPING THE 'BIRD. And maybe now that she is parked I can "****" with some stuff....but who knows. Just wanted to let you all know. I will be around though, as I will still have the car and will ALWAYS love thirdgens!!
But now that she will be sitting' in March. What are some good mods to do that won't suck up the dough! I was thinking of getting the injectors cleaned. And I am kinda scared to do a cam my self...some input would be great. I think first up though will be a macco paint job in case I do decide sell it next year.
Bought Summer 2000 - 72,000
Will be Sat Spring 2003 ~ 120,000

Ha, just that easy huh?

Lets put a hold on that previous post!
Since that post i have suddenly hit a few snags...grr.
Taxes were I live now are freakin' ridiculous. Just found out what it would cost me just to own it and jeez! I love cars, but they have to be out of their minds.
And to top it off, I double checked with my insurance company and now they are quoting me 300.00 more every six months....SOB's!!
Now the whole thing is all of a sudden up in the air!
Yea, i have thought about the RX8, but haven't heard too much about it though. The Supra is coming soon too. I dunno, this whole process is such a PITA.

The RX8 will own the road. friend had a RX7 with the 2 rotor one and man it was a rocket on rails.
They are much like a dirt bike, fast reving suckers and all powerband.

That's right you're in Conn!
They **** you on taxes on rides like no other.
Great equalizer!
Iheard of this one guy getting fooked for an old VW.
How do they do things like that?
Do they read hemmings for average of the currrent market value?
Be thankful, those new "z" things look like big blobs of metal poured over conastoga wagon wood spoked wheels.
These cars don't look good in real life.
Besides, get a new Corvette.
"z" cars are only wanna be Corvettes. Always were.
Test drove a used 1972, in 1973 or 74. Decent, but...
Definetly the prettiest styled Z's, as I still have my BRE 240Z 1/24th scale plastic model from 1970.
Want a "Z"? Go buy a new used 1970-72 one & hopefully beat that Conn. tax stuff.

Yea, CT is good for two things high taxes and high car insurance.
The funny thing is I am originally from East Haven, where the taxes on the 'bird were like 60.00. But where I am now, I paid 180.00 last year!!
So I called yesterday...and the town I live in now looks up the MSRP on a new car (or current "value" of a used car) and takes 70% of that price and then charges you 54.00 for every 1,000.
So to get an idea, a 30,000.00 car would equate to 1200.00 in taxes!!! I refuse to pay that much just to "have" the car. So I called the next town over...and they said it would be 800.00. So I don't know what the heck is going on....so I will be making some more calls today.
A vette would be great, but not yet....only 22! Haha, and am on the market for something new.

why would you pay taxes ever year on a car???? That sound like some kind of mob scam.
geese if they do that on everything you own it might be cheaper to move.
yea them old datson/nissan 240z were some nice cars, all of em were fast. some of them 240s were sweet as hell, like a fierri. reverse hood and sweet interior layout big **** straight 6 with a 5 speed. I remember one a guy sold for 50 bucks cause the shock was comming through the tower, acted like it was too much to fix, car was sooo sweet inside and out. had to be 70s black n gold.

I knew a guy once back in WA that had some brand new 4-door import, and the other one was a brand new import suv, don't remember what brands.
He was working like 2 extra jobs trying to pay for them. And guess what he did then the warranty expired, traded it in for another new one.
I asked him why he did all that for......
because he wanted the warranty so he wouldn't have to pay or work on anything ever.
Knew someone with a old 70s Z also. handled and hauled, but was so rusted, he locked the keys in it once, and reached in through a hole in the door and unlocked it.

That brings up a point, why buy new cars.
when you add payments, taxes into insurance.
Just take 300 a month and spend it on the car you have now. If you like it.

IF I AM CORRECT
Conn.
DOESN'T HAVE STATE TAXES
They tax everything else.
It's a great equalizer.
Ask about property tax...........
80's Corvettes are going for pennies on the Dollar.
IF you understand the MPFI set up of our V-6s you know how to work on an 80's Corvette.
Biggest expense on those Vettes are Dashboard electronics & tires (big special sized tires equals big$$).
Rest is normal wear & tear.
Until you get to a tranny rebuild!
Find an Automatic Corvette & be happier.
Usually going for about $3K now.....
AND THEY WILL INCREASE IN VALUE!
NOT IMMEDIALTY but certainly will not loose money on an eighties Corvette!
I know of a damaged 1974 for $2500 & a in pieces 1977 for $2500, out in SoCAL, too!

And from what I am gathering it varies from town to town. For example the Z would cost me 1200.00 in taxes in New Britain, but only 800.00 in West Hartford. I am going to call my home town too and see what it would be there. Maybe I could register it there but keep it up here....i dunno....
For years,
Sister lived in Westport.
Car registered at parents home in PA.
My trialer in CA, now registered to parents in PA ($6 annual fee!).
It's sucha rip wha some places get away with for fees.
My 1" CA registration sticker costs me luckily only $40 per car & cycle (I have 5 cars & 3 cycles, only 1 cycle registered right now).
That's why I don't buy new cars yet I gotta next year for Wife & my Son.
I promised, atleast it'll be a Chevy Astrovan not a minivan...yeech....
I feel my ***** being cut off if I say that word....

Jerry Palmer, heading the design team at GM
designed the
Corvette (80's)
F Body (80's)
Also the Aztek
Don't eat the Brown Acid, Bummer, Bummer
That has been changed to that new Pontiac vehicle right?
Aztek is dead after a one year design?
Please say yes!

But between that and insurance, I am trying to justify it in my head still. Its ALOT of car for the money.
I just don't see spending 25,000 on and RSX type S, anyone agree???
Sorry,
I stil recall the days when my Dad came home in a brand new Ford LTD Country Squire Wagon & said he just bought the most expensive car on teh lot.
Price was $5K.
I also recall the days when we special ordered a brand new 1974 Corvette, bought for $6600, drove it for three years and sold it for over $8,000.
I also recall the day when I bought a brand new 1983 model year motorycle for $3300, sold it a year & day later on for $2,000 with super low milage.
I bought my 1967 Camaro for $3800 (1983) (the RS/SS 4-speed convert) & it's supposed worth now about $118,000.
Better is my Wife, her 1968 Camaro bought for only $600! in the early 80's!
New cars are SO EXPENSIVE & for what?
no true personalities anymore.
Just an appliance with options....
