carb to mpfi swap in a 2.8
hey my carb keeps giving me a **** load of trouble so i was thinking of the idea of changing it over to mpfi. can any one help with idea its not exactly somthing thats done everyday and i want to no if its possible. since i can ge tthe fuel injection system for free im opting for that befor i buy a new carb that may act up agian in a year. thanks
its done all the time in the V8 world. You have the same stuff lined up.
You have to get all the sensors, engine wiring harness, I would suggest going to the 90-92 speed density system of the 3.1's(it will run the 2.8's just fine) then the computer with chip. Good cheap place to search... www.car-parts.com

Your going to need to find a donor V-6 top half, wiring harness, and computer.
I think you should change the heads for it to run properly, but I could be wrong.
You need the intake, the injectors, and all the sensors. Those will have to be all fitted into your old engine. Then you will need to pull out your old wiring harness, and replace it with the MPFI harness, Plus run this all the the computer you have to replace too.
You will probably have some alterations in your guages from then new wiring harness as well.
BUT the big problem will be the electric fuel pump that is inside the tank. You will need to drop the tank and install this.
With all this effort I would say either you take a weekend and do it all, or sell your current car, and search for an FI car.

I think there was someone on here 3 or 4 years ago that did it; but I can't remember.
But yeah, basically, you replace everything off your motor except for the engine block and the heads and the water pump/alternator/air conditioning. If you can visit a junkyard, take a disposable camera and check out a MPFI v6, take a few pictures; everything will be pretty obvious after that.

Serious, IF you don't FULLY understand how to "swap inductions sytems over (including electronics)"
go rebuid the carb.
While you are at it, also have rebushed the Primary Shaft on the carb base.
It is the CHEAPEST EASIEST alternative to a full on induction system swap.
What changes....
let's say, the engine bay swap is the easiest.
Have you decided to drop the fuel tank to install the expensive dedicated electronic fuel pump system?
Or other alternative is just dump current ride & start high tech (MPFI vehicle).
Either alternative is not easy decision nor cheap I know.
