Good day at the Yard!!!

Hey all,

Had an awesome day at the yard. Headed up there on Saturday to get some weatherstripping for the 83 and whatever else I could find. Had one hell of a day.

I get up there and find out the changed the entire yard's setup. the cars are still grouped by manufacturer but now the body types are not grouped together but rathered scattered throughout the "GM"section. took a stroll and here are the highlights...

A black TA w-T-tops -- struggled for about 2 hours to loosen up the power window that was stuck up in order to remove the strip that runs on the outside top of the door. Finally liberated it and the door weather strip.

Blue TA w-T-tops -- Nothing good to grab

Black Formula -- Started to remove the roof rail weather strip but gave up as I was tearing it more than I should have. Decided that mine was in good enough shape and moved on.

Blue V-6 Bird-- Saw it and it looked like TomP's twin. Popped the hood to see Taylor 8mm wires on it! Neexdless to say I took them and the coolant overflow bottle.

Took another stroll and stumbled across a 92 leSabre. Was able to get the much needed power lock switch/latch assembly for the wife's car.

Then the best part. Was about to call it a day and rate it as average for obtaining parts when what do my eyes see? Why the only Camaro in the lot! And it's an 83! Red with -- what's this?-- YES!!!! SAND GREY INTERIOR!!! Lets pull back these cheap covers to see how bad the seats really are. THEY"RE IMMACULATE!!!!! Spent the rest of the time taking both front seats, the Accel wires, emission label and factory vaccumhoses to replace my homemade hackjob.

Plunked down 48 bucks for all of it.

By January I plan to have an immaculate stock sand grey interior in the 83.

Did the waetherstripping on Sunday -- Man what a difference! Car is as quiet as a caddy!

Sweet! Glad to hear you got a full interior! I remember your seat was pretty shot. Hey you should see my seat... remember that little tear? Well now it's torn all the way down the side bolster... and I'm back in the market for seats again. Damn seats. I gotta upgrade all the weatherstripping on my car, too. Those outer belt strips (that you replaced on the doors) are shot, they've got a ton of cracks in 'em. And the passenger side window weatherstripping is now torn because of that door with the worn-out hinges.

I've got my "to do" list packed for next summer. Lets see if I actually get around to doing any of it this time. That's cool that the yard has now scattered the f-bodies around. I sort of prefer it that way. There's usually less of a tendency for the cars to get stripped when someone has to hunt for the car.

Thanks guys

Tom -- I saw a Firebird up there and thought it was yours. Interior is still in good shape on that one. The yard is in Conshohocken PA (outside of Philly) Maybe it could help you procure some parts for cheap.

Ghostrider -- Definitely not local for me! Takes about an hour to get there from Northeast MD. But I haven't been disappointed yet every time I make the trip.

You know it's funny, I was reading your descriptions of the cars in the yard and thought, wait a minute, oh, check your location and no, you are in Maryland. Then you post this. We may have bumped into each other at one time or another.

Lately I've been in the truck yard getting El Camino parts. . .

You know of Shorty's then? Man, that place is great. I don't go up often (maybe once every other month). I've never been to Shorty's and Dave's yet as I don't own a truck. I should probably check it out though. Were you there this past weekend? I worked through the drizzle but was done by the time it really started raining.

Just an FYI

Those outer belt strips are a MAJOR PITA to swap out.

I had to remove the window tracks and slide the glass back and forth to get access to the screws holding it in. Long process but SO WORTH IT

Yep, that's the place. Almost went this weekend but with Xmas coming up was busy with other stuff. I've converted a couple of vehicles to EFI with parts from the two yards. Good prices if you don't mind searching & pulling what you need.

Everytime I find a turbo Sunbird they are hit in the front right by the turbo. Soon, soon. . .

I now have a cheat sheet with the VIN 8th digit so I know whether a car has a '730 or not. Found a wonder bar one day. That's where I got the Y air cleaner setup I put on the '92. They don't charge much for plastic stuff. It's kinda' like they charge by the pound.

I CAN'T BELEIVE YOU SPELLED THAT CORRECT!
Being I used to live by there......

Hey BROB.. do you happen to have the ROCHESTER FUEL INJECTION downloadable manuals for the EARLIER units (like 1957-1962?)?

The ones you offered for the 1963-65 Rochester Fuel Injection units WERE EXCELLENT!

IF you happen to have any of those parts I know someone local to you that would take them off your hands....

No on the Rochester FI manual, that is the only one I had access to. Funny you bring up the spelling, I used to live IN Conshie and it took me forever to get the spelling down. The only way I could remember it is that it is spelled exactly like it is pronounced, lol.

THANKS FOR RESPONSE!!
Try Schwenksville, where I used to live, too.
On Deiber Road.
When NE PA people visit me (in SoCal), my favorite trick is to show them "Sepulveda Blvd."
Have fun pronouncing it, as I'll bet ya wrong!
Does that yard have any 1979 Chvey Vans with an AC dash?
Friend of mine is trying to score one, he's in Breinigsville!
Can anyone supply me with a phone number for that yard?

MANY THANKS ON THE FI MANUAL LINK!!
My Brother has a 1958 unit, he was hoping.....
He also owns a "Mongrol" 1963-65 unit, so what ya offered was just perfect!
