Is it all in my head ?
I had to take my books back to school today ( we rent them ) .Anyway , so after changing my oil yesterday and driving my car to school today , my car just seems to run better , seems smoother , seems like it gets up to speed just a little bit better , seems it runs a little bit quieter . It did not need an oil change that bad . I change my oil every 5 thousand miles .Is this just in my head that it was running better ?

I've noticed that as well. Whenever you give the car an oil change, whether it needed it bad or not (last time I changed it it was after 3000 miles, and I still noticed a positive change), it seems to run just a little bit better than before. I like to think of it as the car's way of saying "Thanks for loving me and taking good care of me! vroom!"
Wash
Anyone ever notice the same fresh feeling when you give your car a real good washing???, seems to drive/run better or maybe we just think that cuz it looks alot better so of course it has to be running better, lol

Mine runs worse after a wash...well, an automatic wash anyways..but that's because the undercarriage spray conveniently soaks up my open filter. At least I don't have the dual snorkel setup, then I'd REALLY be screwed. Wayne..I've noticed that a TAD bit on my car, but usually I notice nothing from an oil change. But then again, I keep my changes between 3000 and 3750 or so miles. How hard do you drive your car, and what kind of climate is where you live? 5,000 might be a little on the late side to change it if you drive it hard...conventional oil can start to break down at that point, but it all depends on how hard you are on the car. Still, I'd try to change it not much farther than 4,000...I mean if you love your car like I love mine, you wouldn't want to take chances...
Also, if you haven't changed your oil filter in a while and just did, that would make more of a difference than new oil itself.
