ok.. well my friend has a 92 S-10 that currently has a 2.8L 5 speed in it. he found some guy that has a vortec 4.3 and paxton s/c from a 96 s-10, wireing harness, ECU, ect.. for $3500. now what im wondering.. the guy says the engien alone has 310 hp (no dyno sheet to back it up) and with the s/c with its 14 psi pulley it makes 450 hp (not dyno proven). he didnt tell him the compression of the block or whats all in it, but the block is getting decked soon and it passed some test (forgot the name of it.. starts with a "m") ... but i am wondering/questioning.. first.. can a 4.3 even survive with a 14 psi pulley? and with it getting decked.. isnt that compression going to go even higher? he also said he has a ZF-6speed from a zr-1 vette that will bolt up to the block.. is this true? cause i thought that tranny had its own special/different mounts-bolts. cause this guy sounds like total
to me.. but my friend is going to get more info from him sometime next week.
to me.. but my friend is going to get more info from him sometime next week. First, yes the ZF-6 speed will bolt up. They used it in the 3rd gen Firehawks and in the LT4 Vettes and who knows what else. The 4.3 is a 90* block just like the SBC.
Second, if you search for some info on the Syclone/Typhoon, they came with a turbocharged 4.3L. Dunno how much boost they ran at but you can probably find out if the internals were the same as a regular 4.3.

HE would have had to do some MAJOR mods to get 310 w/o boost, and 450 on boost. It can be done, but would take more then 3500 for it, unless the guy needs some quick $ to get him a "fix" if you know what I mean.
It it was a TBI based motor, it had 160-170ish hp.
If it was a CPI based motor, it had 185-190ish hp (more then likely this one.
If it was a newer 4.3l vortec, around 195-210ish hp
Now if its a 96 engine, that could be a ODB2 system and he will have a tad bit of fun making it work.
I "read" somewhere that GM used very similar bolt pattens on the back of engines, and for trannys, so they will all interchage with a little $ and time.
I mean, the 700r4 was used from 2.5l "econo boxs" to the 5.7 "monstor engine" in camaros and full size trucks. So very possible the tranny could be bolted up

ok.. well 1 other question i guess. the guy said he made the 450 hp with a 14 psi pulley *isnt that to low of HP and to high of a pulley? he said he also has a few otehr pulleys that range from 14 psi to 28 psi.. isnt that just WAY to much? i mean most s/c cars i c aroudn here are running 4-5 psi or 9'ish on the track.

28 psi is HARDCORE even for a turbo..much less a supercharger..I'm gonna have to pull a flag on that.

Not sure on lb rattings. However, you are correct most I have seen is around a 10lb, usually range of 4-6.

Yeah..14 PSI is about normal for a turbo....ballsy as hell for a supercharger. And 28 on a super is TOTAL BS.

28 psi with a supercharger would blow the h*ll out of any engine pretty fast. so, you dont know what has been done internally to that engine? 14 psi would probably reak havoc on stock internals, and the money to get all that rigged up to take the abuse would justify a higher asking price for the engine. either the flag is being pulled or you are getting one h*ll of a deal.
